Changing the oil in your BMW is one of the most basic and necessary services your engine needs for protection and longevity. Every oil service that is performed – whether by you or a professional – should include an oil and filter change and a multi-point inspection to ensure that your vehicle doesn’t have any problems arising.
These precision automobiles are not made the same way a Chevy or a Subaru is. They should not be entrusted to a mechanic who has only the basic training needed to work on general vehicles. Even when it comes to something as simple as an oil change, it is best to take your BMW to a specialty shop.
Your driving habits should dictate when and how often you change your oil. The standard guidelines apply to average drivers, which don’t include us all. Here are some guidelines based on mileage that should serve you better.
– 0 to 17,000 km per-year – 2 oil changes yearly
– 17,000 -30,000 km per year – oil change every 7,500 km
– 30,0000 km and greater – oil change every 12,000 km
No appointment is needed for an oil change at Bimmex, though if you do schedule one we will promptly take care of you. Typically we can have you in-and-out in under 40 minutes. Our prices are: $87.5 / 6cyl and $97.5 / 8&12 cyl (except M); MINI $77.5.
You will hear people telling you to change your oil every 5,000 km but this has been proven to be detrimental. BMWs run on synthetic oil, which burns cleaner and provides the engine with a ton of benefits. While you can get synthetic oil at any auto repair shop, they are still likely going to slap a mileage sticker on your windshield. Ignore it if you must, but what you’re looking at is a shop more concerned with doing business rather than giving their customers the specialized service they deserve. The service indicator light many come on but it’s better to wait and go by the appropriate mileage to determine when to change the oil in your BMW.
Making a serious commitment to the proper oil changing and tune-up schedule will dramatically increase the life of your beloved BMW. BMW repair, done properly, requires specialized tools that don’t work on other vehicles. For that reason, most regular shops don’t have them around. You can do a lot for a BMW with general car tools, but you risk breaking something important in the process.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bimmex. We are located in Markham and service Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Woodbridge, and surrounding areas.
