Shopping for tires for your BMW may feel like a significant investment. The last thing anyone wants to do is spend money unnecessarily for new tires, especially if the existing ones are not worn down completely yet. However, the vast majority of Toronto area BMW owners have winter tires on their car. While you can certainly drive with them during the spring and summer months, it’s going to reduce fuel efficiency, power, control, and those tires will wear down much more quickly in the heat of summer.
Looking for replacement tires could end up pointing you towards discount tire centers and maybe even the classified ads. You might be tempted to purchase almost new or new tires that are offered at a ridiculously low price.
Many people don’t stop and think about why or how a company can offer products at such a low price. When it comes to tires, there’s actually a thing called counterfeit tires.
Ask yourself the most basic question.
Before making any purchase for your BMW, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of asking one very basic question: does the deal seem too good to be true?
In most cases when you’re talking about BMW parts, including tires, if a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Counterfeit tires are second rate quality tires that may not have the same type of radial or other components that make the actual brand tire so safe. However, these counterfeit tires may have the exact same look and style of the better name brands and they might even have those brand names stamped on them.
How can you tell the difference?
Find an authorized BMW service center and ask them to inspect the tires you’re interested in purchasing. If the price seems ridiculously low, odds are they may be counterfeit or not quite what you thought they were originally.
