When the sun is shining and the temperatures are rising, you just want to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather. If you have a convertible top on your BMW, you might enjoy rolling it down, letting the wind flow through your hair, and feel like you are connected to the outside world.
The summer sun can be harsh on not just your skin and furniture inside your house, but also that convertible top. Whether or not you keep that top down through most of summer or bring it up to feel the nice cool air conditioning flowing through those vents, there are some things you should do to keep it looking its best and staying in peak condition for as long as possible.
Pay attention to your owner’s manual.
The best first step is to read the owner’s manual with regard to proper care for that convertible top. There are many different types of convertible tops and how you open and close it, what you apply to it, and more will all be included in that manual.
Keep it clean.
Whether or not you wash your BMW weekly, every couple of days, or once a month, make sure you keep that convertible top as clean as possible.
Dirt and grime and other debris can build up on that surface and eventually lead to a weakening in the material. It can also affect the seals and cause leaks.
Rinse with water regularly.
You simply take a hose and rinse the top of that car with water on a regular basis. The hotter it is outside, the more direct sunlight that the convertible top is exposed to, the more frequently you should water it down.
Treat it with proper solutions.
Depending on the material, you want to treat it with a moisturizing solution. You should do this at least twice a year, but more frequently during the summer, especially if the vehicle sits outside and is not inside of a garage.
By following these simple tips, you will help to protect the convertible top on your BMW so it looks great and function properly for years to come.
