Even though summer is just about over, that doesn’t mean you’re free and clear. Summer storms can last through August and into fall. We can even have some intense thunderstorms in October. No matter when it rains, you want to be prepared and you want your car, your BMW, to be prepared as well.
The importance of wiper blades.
If you have older wiper blades that have dried out and cracked, they may clear the windshield well enough, but it’s probably going to streak or take a few swipes before it actually clears the surface. If you’re traveling down the highway at 110 km/h, those few seconds could mean several hundred meters of distance you travel. Are you really willing to take that chance?
During the summer, the sun’s ultraviolet rays and the intense heat will generally cause most items to begin drying out. Those wiper blades are thin. The thinner the rubber surface is, the more quickly they will dry out.
When they dry out to, they won’t function as well as they were designed to.
What can you do about that situation now?
The best thing you can do is have those wiper blades replaced at the end of the summer season. If you notice any streaking, skipping, or other problems with your wipers, you should have them replaced immediately. Don’t wait for the end of the season if you notice the problems developing in the middle of summer, in the middle of fall, or the middle of winter.
It’s a good idea to replace the wiper blades at the beginning of each season. You may have gotten six months, a year, or even several years out of your wiper blades in the past, but most likely you simply dealt with the streaking and lower quality cleaning they provided at that time.
As a BMW owner, there’s no need to deal with that anymore.
